A Spray tan is the perfect way to achieve an even, golden, natural look. Applying self tanning products is the only way to guarantee a safe and healthy golden colour.
Self tanning products are on the whole very good, providing natural safe colouring. For the best results choose a recommended product and follow the advice below for a great look.
How your tan looks and lasts is down to how well you prepare and maintain your skin and tan.
Remove any unwanted hair at least 24 hours prior to your spray tan appointment.
Exfoliate the skin thoroughly the night before and apply moisturiser. Avoid using ones with an oil base as this may create a barrier to the spray tan penetrating your skin.
On the day of your spray tan avoid applying any moisturiser to the skin and keep deodorant to a minimum.
Remove all make up before having a tan applied.
If your skin is excessively dry your therapist will apply a suitable moisturiser to your skin before applying the tan.
Wear loose dark clothing after having your tan and avoid putting tight fitting clothes as your tan may well end up sticking to your clothes instead of your skin.
Initially avoid any activities where you have to wear tight fitting clothes and may also perspire for horse riding, football etc.
Ideally leave the tan on over night to develop (minimum of 8 hours)
Wash off with water in the morning, avoid using rich, moisturising shower/bath crèmes.
Gently pat your skin dry. Avoid rubbing the skin as this will lift the tan.
Apply a light moisturiser to keep your skin nice and nourished which will help to prolong your tan.
In the 3-4 days after your tan gently exfoliate your skin all over. This will ensure that your tan fades evenly.
To enhance your tan further use a moisturiser containing a small amount of self tan. This will enhance the colour of your initial tan.
Depending on how well you look after your tan it can last for up to 10 days.
St Tropez Self Tan is a natural dye so it will wash out of all fabrics, however we would advise you to avoid white fabrics as they are harder to clean afterwards.
If you are looking to have your self tan done in order to have a glorious golden tan at a wedding or special occasion we would advise you to have the tan applied approximately two days in advance to ensure an even tan. This then allows you to have it topped up just before the wedding if you so desire..
